What did the opening scenes of sunday night's episode remind you of (deserted Soprano compound, all the leaves, cooler fall-like weather)?
It reminded me of GF2. The made for tv version of the trilogy, which runs in chronological order, has a one to two minute sequence with the theme music and scenes from the Tahoe compound (with the leaves, the deserted house, the changing season). Just a thought.
TV guide says Chase gives a nod to the Corleones in one of the early episodes, but I don't think this was it.

Sure. I can see that. I was also thinking, what, Carm dismissed the lawn guys when she and Tony split, because the yard's a mess?!?!
Also...I can't put my finger on it. Although I know his mind was still reeling from Melfi, *I* felt *safe* when Tony was sitting in that lawn chair, smoking the cigar, and holding the automatic rifle. Bizarre, huh? Carm's asking him if he wants coffee, he's being the man of the house and for a second, if only for a second, all was right with my world. I had that same feeling at certain times with Michael in the house at Tahoe. This eerie calm surrounded the space around him

My aunt, who posts here as janicezany, made this observation to me immediately after the show aired -- the leaves and stillness and deserted look of the Soprano grounds resembling the opening shots of GF III (which I think actually used footage shot for II). I'm not sure if the Sops similarity was intentional, but after it was pointed out to me, I sure could see it.

Yeah, I thought it was more reminiscent of Godfather 3 as well, with the abandoned compound, and the shot of the cok and all. I didn't really see Godfather Two at all. I assume, that the reviewer with TV Guide, was referring to this, because it seems to defintly be a reminder of The Corleones.

I really liked the node to the GF, with the opening scenes, you really did get the feeling of the Tahoe compound. I also noticed as someone else had brought up in a different thread that a glass of OJ was placed in front of Carmine right before he had his stroke.
I have noticed a couple times during the series that there were oranges in the back round that gave the feeling of eminent doom.
Or maybe I have just seen the GFs too many times and as soon as I see an orange I think. Oh no here comes trouble.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

I also thought that it just isnt the same without Tony being there. It was kinda Wierd seeing the newspaper at the end of the driveway.Wasnt the same not seein Tony walk down and get his star ledger, like every episode before that.

Sybolistic of what the future holds for him i think. Not sure if I like the whole Break - up thing with him and carmella either.
I think that If tony was smart he would do everything he can to patch up things with carmella instead of wasting his energy with Melfi, this way he can concentrate on business instead of getting sidetracted with Melfi. Hes starting to loose site of whats important business wise because he is so unstable with his family at home. Hes a much better Gangster when things at home are stable.
Of course this is just my opinion...Whadda I know?
