Did anyone else think it was out of character for Tony to be snorting lines of coke?

It seems that with his split from Carmela, Tony feels less inhibited (e.g. not immediately shutting down the weird vibes from Adriana).

This lack of self-control may prove to be a future undoing.

On the other hand, Tony B seems to be showing a lot of wisdom and maybe he is the element that keeps Tony S in check.

Sorry Right, musta made the topic at the same time. anyways...yeah i do think that tony is searching for lost youth. Hanging out at ade's club, wearing Hawaiian shirts, blowing lines, and thats just this episode. look at how he want a roommate in artie. why does tony want a roommate. to relive his youth. he probably had one in college, even if it was just one semester

Yeah I was a bit perplexed at this too...my husband saw Tony wiping his nose in the club when he ran into Meadow and he asked me, "Is that coke?" I said, "Hell no, Tony doesn't do coke," remembering how harshly he came down on Christopher last season for abusing drugs.

Next thing I see is Tony doing lines with Adriana...I'm like "what the HELL???" Just didn't seem to fit, unless he was just trying to impress her or "be cool."

My girlfriend made the same comment, and I too said there's no way he does cocaine. Boy, did I eat my words. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

Although I too was a bit surprised when he snorted the coke, Tony did say last season when they were dumping Ralphies body that he has done that in the past with Chris actually, it is just something we have never seen and something that he probably hadn't done in a while. Like people have been saying maybe he is just trying to act young bring back some feelings of his youth.

Exactly, zilljay, and laced in that discussion and the one earlier in the same ep was Tony's admonition about doing drugs once one has children. I got the feeling that Tony quit drugs years before probably when his children were small because his life was changed by that experience.

I see his drug use in this ep as just another subtle manifestation of the unspoken turmoil he's in, primarily as a result of his separation with Carm.

The look on Tony's face and his words to defend himself when Carm asks him about Cocaine are almost exactly AJ's reaction last week when Tony accused him of doing drugs. Both lied, and both were shocked, SHOCKED! that anyone could accuse them of such heinous behavior.

"No, Tony doesn't do drugs," I said when my girlfriend asked about the early scene in the bar.

I guess we don't know as much about the newly-single Tony as we thought we did. However once it was paired with his attraction to Adriana it made a little more sense to me. He was showing that he could be "cool" to impress her.

Did it escape anyone's notice that by doing drugs with her, he did the one thing with Adriana that Chrissy can't do?

Anyway, I agree with FlyOnMelfisWall that Tony is in a real crisis because of the separation from Carmela and this is just one more sign of it.

Ugh... I hated that T was blowing lines. I'm not a drug user, but for the most part I tolerate indulging now and again among my friends, mainly because it seems everyone dabbles, and who am I to impose my will on others, but for some reason coke is just disgusting to me... I don't know why but I just hate it.

The drug thing, if it continues, and I hope it doesn't with Tony, is just one more thing that would damn him, as others have noted, in the eyes of his crew.

In their eyes, he sees a shrink, he doesn't whack Chris (or Feech) when he should (actually, Uncle Junior would have whacked Chris long ago)...the wheels are coming off in his life.

Big Tony Soprano is a trainwreck. He is an absolute mess but its fun to watch since its only TV. I didn't know he did drugs either but I think he did it because he wanted to get it on with Ade.

All Tony did was lie about everything last night....

Lied to Chrissy "It never entered my mind"

Lied to Melfi "Nothing happened because I controlled myself."

Lied to Carm "I don't do drugs."

Lies, lies and lies on more lies are gonna be hard to keep straight.......

I think a bunch of you are way off. I think we will see Tony exert himself even more this season. Silvio agreed about the Feech thing (why wack him when you can just remove him?)
I think he is going to actually learn something from his behaviours. I can't imagine him being that stupid that he thinks he can just do whatever he wants without if effecting him.
Just like he realized with Melfi that any relationship with Ade would be a disaster to everyone. Remember also that Tony reads and trys to learn as much from History as possible. I think we will continue to see a strenghting Tony. One that gets his family back, and perhaps even assumes more control over NY/NJ

My interpretation of the Feech thing was different:

When Silvio says that he and Christopher agree, it really meant that they didn't neccessarily agree because the convential wisdom is to whack him and figured Tony would know that, so he specifically mentions they agree with him. Basically, saying "you did the right thing" is equivalent to everyone laughing hard at Tony's bad joke.

Tony, in turn, knows he's being lied to and makes his "I'm not running a popularity contest" comment - in which he's basically saying that he knows they don't agree but he doesn't care.

I was surprised at seeing Tony do coke (had forgotten he had done drugs in the past). As far as it hurting his position within his crew, it doesn?t have to go that way. Anthony Graziano the reallife consigliere of the New York Bonanno Family did coke and his boss Joseph Massino apparently whacked another capo who dared say something about that habit. So it?s not necessarely that Tony will get into problems with his crew. But it could happen ofcourse.
