The drugs. Letting Christopher live (even after last season, when Junior advised him to whack him). Letting Feech live.
The unprotected sex (have we ever, ever seen him put on a condom?? Last ep of Season 4, I kept expecting Carm's "viral syndrome" to be HIV). The horrendous diet. Does he want to die?
Don't get me wrong--I love his character dearly, but is he passive-aggressive suicidal?

In "Moonstruck" Olympia Dukakis's character offered her philosophical conclusion that "Men seek death" as the explanation for male philandering. It was her absolute truth that men cheat because they seek death. In cheating she opined, that "they spread their seed far and wide," thereby in a sense ultimately beating the finality of their own demise. An interesting theme at any interpretive slant... Tony does seem to bait, antagonize, love/hate death.

I was thinking of Moonstruck too today, OE...just on the opera thread, how Puccini underscored that movie too. I had totally forgotten about that line from the movie. Thanks for that!

I think he let Chris live because he loves Chris too much - which may or may not be his downfall. If it was Paulie instead of Chris? Forget about it....Paulie would've been riddled with bullets.lol.

As Tony S's character has noted, there are only 3 ways out of the mob - killed, jail or if lucky, die of old age. I think people in the mob, like Tony B's character like the thrill of the life, like how some people like doing dangerous jobs like police, firefighters. He may also think that because he is a mobster, that he in invincable to the risks of STD's, driving fast, etc, much like a teenager thinks. So it may not be a death wish, but rather an inmaturity, a love for a life on the edge, which is sometimes better than living a boring life behind a desk. He also knows the risks of his lifestyle, but may not care as figures he may not live to an old age, and definetly doesn't want to die of old age in jail.
