Tony to Janice: paraphrasing " you could start a whole nuclear family out hear, bring HARPO down...."

Who was the Canadian that Bobby killed in the Laundromat? Was his name HAL?

That would be a twiast of Fate..although I am sure if that was HAL who got whacked by Bobby in the Custody battle..Janice would have heard he died at least?

ANyone have any thoughts on that possibility?

Not possible, what are the odds of that? Besides, if her son died months ago I think Janice would have known by now.
Anyways, she says he changed his name and dead people don't change their names now do they?

I said when Harpo was mentioned, There one plot that is closed. Earlier we talked about the shooting was it Harpo. I think Chase added that line based on what people were talking about.

It was kinda weird this whole thing about harpo changing name. What symbolism and interpretation behind that?

My take: Harpo - is a weird name that reflects Janice's weirdness, and rebeliousness in her younger years. Janice changed a lot since then and became normal. So did Harpo changing his name to more civil Hal.

or maybe Chase is just trying to resolve that mistery about Bobby killing canadian guy. Very unusual of him though:) I wanna know what happened to the russian guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...oh well too late for that one:)

I just rewatched "Soprano Home Movies" this morning and there is no mention of a name for the Canadian drummmer that Bobby kills. We'll just have to keep wondering.

The credits list the character as Rene LaCours, played by Marc Bonan. I did a search on the name and found a brief mention here:

I don't have the back episodes at my disposal. Even though I've seen them all, can someone please refresh my memory. What is the story of Harpo? Whenever he's mentioned I shamefully shrug my shoulders.

To the best of my recollection, Janice had a son many years ago. She named him Harpo after that Phobe Snow song. It didn't work out well for Janice and Harpo. He left her at an early age and changed his name to Hal. Janice said he subsequently became a street person.

Leaving Janice and changing his name are probably both signs that he wasn't happy with Janice or living with her. There was a great episode in which Tony provoked Janice and she attacked him with a dinner knife whle she and Tony were having dinner with Bobby and his two kids. This was probably a sign that she felt a lot of shame and guilt over Harpo.

There is really not much else to the story of Harpo that I can recall.

The single defining moment of Janice and her crazy character will always be for me when she drove Livia's car over to some house and the craziest music was playing on the car's audio. It sounded like some man being tortured while he was yodelling. It was perfect music to describe what Janice was all about.

The story is that he changed his name many years ago. Many years before Bobby shot the drummer.

Tony and Janice's last conversation about Harpo and Bobby's kids made me realize just how much Janice is like her mother. Janice treated Harpo so badly that he ran away and he changed his name. I think that is what Chase was trying to convey. Janice is the second coming of Livia. No manner how hard she tried to run and hide from her past, she definately is her mother's daughter. The scene with her and Junior, I think, was also used for this purpose.

Harpo having changed his name to Hal was all the way from the second season. i think it was to show how much Janice had become like Livia. or even just how much a hypocrite she is. because she had changed her name to Parvati. and this pissed off Livia. and now here she is getting bitchy about Harpo changing his name. Full Circle.

Part of Tony's revelation of himself is in what he sees in his sister. Janice has become Livia and Tony sees that very well. But he doesn't call Janice on that because he realizes that he has also become his father.

Part of the clarity that is seen in the very last episode is when AJ realizes that his Mom has been part of the mob all along.
When AJ asks about how they can go to a funeral out in the open after so much has gone into the hiding stance, Carm says, Well, there will be a large FBI presence...or something close. All of a sudden AJ starts to see the truth of his mother's situation.

He fights for a different future, army, helicopter pilot for Trump, infiltrator in Afganistan, etc. then becomes his father's son. He ends up going to work for Carmine Jr. in the movie industry. He's happy again. And we saw him repudiate any other possibilities for his life along the way.

Tony always said that he never had a choice. Well, I'm guessing that AJ never really had a choice either when it came down to it.

Now we see in Janice, that she will pass down Livia to her "own" daughter as well as Bobby's daughter, because she needs someone to take care of her daughter.

This is where the circle never ends.

AJ passes back to Tony his words about remembering the good times. He is in the circle.
