At Carmine, Sr.'s funeral, Carmine Jr. pulls Johnny Sack aside and starts questioning him about his father's rosary.

What exactly was Carmine, Jr. pissed off about regarding the rosary...I'm not Catholic or familiar with the different types of rosaries (if there is such a thing), so I don't know what his beef was...

Heh, I'm wondering the same thing.

I'm Catholic, but I don't see what the big deal is. I think Carmine Jr. just wants to castigate John because he sees all the respect others are now giving John.

Carmine Jr. was complaining about the fact that the medal on the rosary indicated that it came from Opus Dei.

Opus Dei is a personal prelature of the Pope, i.e. an officially recognized sect within the Roman Catholic Church, which can liberally be described as very fundamentalist and strict in its beliefs. However, many of the more progressive within the Church see Opus Dei as a sort of cult following. It's core membership is almost exclusively men, with the few female members assuming subjugated and submissive roles.

Incidentally Opus Dei has been getting some unwanted press lately for its fictional role as the villains in the religious thriller "The Da Vinci Code", a 2003 bestseller by Dan Brown.

That baffled me too.
Do you mean that "OPus Dei" is like to Catholics as "Kabbalah" is to the Jewish/Hebrew religion??

There is also some kind of cotroversey that's related to Opus Dei, in The Passion Of Christ. From what I remember, it has something to do with the way someone was buried in The Passion as well. I could be mixing up the review, but I remember reading it. I think it was in a New York Times Review, or perhaps on one of the ones on the LBracco fan site. None the less, it was a very interesting argument, and the whole thing defintly has me intrigued.

When Michael Imperioli was on Conan, he did mention that there was a obscure reference to Mel Gibson's The Passion, although during the time the scene was filmed they had no idea the movie would cause such controversy.

Are you sure he meant the rosary? Looking back, I first thought that he meant Ro's comment about the Apostle Protection Program.

I thought it was about the joke about jesus being able to "see his house from here"

anyway, seems like there was a couple references "religious" in nature. But when does Sporano's tape in reference to Passions of the Christ? Maybe it's just coincidence.

Buit the way I remember it was that it mentioned a burial, and the way it was done, and how it was soe kind of controversey, as far as in the Passion, and how it related to a mobsters funeral.
